It was shaping up to be a very good year for the veteran Chilean cyclist, Marco Arriagada, who has already won the Tour of San Luis beating some top European names, the Vuelta Cyclista de Chile, and was 3rd overall in the Vuelta Independienca Nacional, with stage victories in each.

Too good a year as it seems to be now transpiring... he's tested positive for a banned 'anabolic substance'...

Now there's a surprise. It does prove one thing, you can get caught anywhere. I just wonder how long he may have been at it, or whether it's a recent thing to combat declining abilities. When someone pops up like that and starts performing well above previous form, and is not in the first flush of youth, they are very likely to make the anti-doping people take a closer look. Silly man.

I have to say that when he won San Luis, not knowing much about Chilean cycling, I checked him out because I had assumed he was some young talent, and when he turned out to be 35, I was slightly surprised, but I was pleased for him and didn't question it.
