Hi all

Cold windy weather is back and I have started again with agonising toe cramp when i finish commute home. During the summer not as much a problem and changing shoes makes no difference. So ....

Any ideas what causes this and how I can stop it please

All help gratefully accepted

Have you been fitted? Maybe one leg is a tiny bit shorter and that could make you "reach" more with one foot, causing the cramp. I put a spacer in one of my pedals to adjust the height a bit and it helped me.

Will give that a go , changing from a 175 to 172.5 at weekend so may sort it out. Problem with having a long body and short legs :-)

Cheers

have you considered arthritis ?

Do you have any history of injury to the foot/toes. ?

Cold weather invariably affects arthritic joints and if it is affected that could be why you are noticing it now.

Do you use thicker socks in winter? There's some evidence to link foot and toe cramps with restriction of circulation so if you're getting more problems in winter when you're using more socks and whatnot, maybe it's time to get some overshoes instead.

hmmm Fiona, you may have a point there. I am wearing thicker socks , have overshoes so will give them a go instead. Ventoux no history of arthritis and no foot injuries. Cheers anyway , will try overshoes. Just as cold tonight but on my faithful commuter as weather so poor and no problem with feet. The trek has a shorter crank so maybe a combination will help. New 105 is being fitted tomorrow so

I use my sidi T1 Tri shoes in winter allows me to use thicker socks, and they dry out a lot quicker being made of Dermide.
