Waiting to hear back from a vendor so I decided to take an early lunch and go for a ride. It was my first chance to test out my new Double Fighter II's (the only 'unneccessary' mod to my BSO I promise
) and I tell you, on the road it is like riding a different bike compared with when it was shod with the supplied no-name MTB tyres. I can hit 30mph on a bit of a downhill now, pedalling like a madman with my MTB gearing. But seriously, it is a lot less effort to maintain a reasonable cruising speed on the road.
Same on the hardpack I rode on too, but in places where it was loose it got a bit 'interesting' and I had a few 'uh-oh' moments until I got used to them. That big hill I linked a while ago wasn't possible (for me), the surface is too broken and the bike was sliding around so I decided discretion was the better part of valour and rode round it.
On the way back it absolutely chucked it down and this is when I discovered my brakes are *absolutely s**t* in the wet. The back brake is just pointless, the front brake still stopped me though. Need to look at that.
Then I got in trouble when I got back. I work from home and I got caught by my wife drying the bike with a tea towel![Whistle  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smls/whistling.gif)
Still, 16.31 miles according to the Garmin and 1202 calories. Hmm, it showed 30.2mph when I was on the road but according to the Garmin dashboard after I uploaded it it reckons 29.4 so someone owes me 0.8mph somewhere![Tongue  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smls/tongue.gif)
