Today was a good day

Had visitors staying at the weekend so was eager to ride today. Had arranged a spin with a work colleague but nothing forthcoming so I went out this morning in sunny but windy weather to see how I coped with my compact Centaur 10 speed 12-25 beyond Henley on Thames. Had a good chat at the traffic lights in Twyford with a guy on a Chameleon folding bike who'd just done 20miles. The run to from Wargrave to Henley with a tail wind was brill as was the ride up through the Assendons and Stonor towards Pishill. Very pleased with the ascent of Pishill particularly on the less steep bits. Then on to Nettlebed and back towards Reading via Rotherfield Peppard and Sonning Common, before taking to the lanes to Binfield Heath Dunsden and Sonning Eye. Only done this ride once before. Took six minutes off my best 62+K in 2hrs 11min. I'm rather pleased with that. feel less beaten up by the ride as well, and my CF framed Ridley didn't turn to dust at the first sign of wet roads, descents. potholes etc. Today was indeed. a good day.

Sounds like a fantastic ride, also on some of my favourite routes! I live in Caversham, a little over a mile from Sonning Eye. The route up through Assendon / Stonor / pishill is a good one and the way it gets steeper and steeper is just made to give the quads a good workout.

Still, I am sure being sat in the office sulking cos I have a cold at the moment was just just as much fun... NOT!!

Hope the cold sorts itself out. It was a good ride in superb weather for the end of October. You're spot on about Pishill though. I don't have a Garmin or similar so have no data on gradient, but my neighbour reckons according to his that it goes from 1% through most of the bit from the Fairmile through to Stonor to 3% to 7% to an average of 10% towards the end with short stretches coming out at 20% near the top. It's certainly a good one. Mind you there is also Turville Hill!
