This thread'll probably die a death, cos even i dont know what i'm talking about...
Early 70s, we were tasked at school with ripping out an old building (part of our tech studies work or summit) in Bingham, Notts. It seemed like it had been used as a youth club, social building...something like that...not quite sure.
Above the door was a sign...TocH

Never knew what it was, never seen it since, dont know whether it still exists as (i assume) an organisation.

Wot is it then ?

I've heard the name, and think from memory it was (is?) some sort of volunteer organisation, maybe centred on youth work (although older than the current concept of 'yoof'), and possible Christian based...

Having stuck my neck out, I'm off to google it...

I've just googled it and it was something like, " He was as bright as a Toc H lamp"

because they were very dim, apparently:biggrin:

The name is from gunners' signalling code, from the old phoenetic alphabet. I've been to the old TocH HQ in France (or is it Belgiuim?) but I don't know much more about them.

I reember my Dad had a phrase which escapes me but had the words 'Toc H lamp' in it.

Mine too. Dim's a TocH lamp or Dim as a NAAFI candle! The Symbol for TocH was an old biblicle period oil lamp.

I went on a couple of fund raising treasure hunt type things they organised round London a few years ago. Really good, but I've no idea where we found out about them.
