I am considering purchasing a titanium headset to match my titanium frame. However having read some posts on t'internet, most of which are getting on a bit, one of the complaints was that the headset would start to creak after a while. Does anyone have any up to date experience about this? Are they still a creaking problem?

It's a heck of a lot of money for a headset. I have a Chris King silver headset on my Ti. I did look at the Ti one but though it's just a tad too much so stuck with the normal silver one instead. And it looks the dogs danglies as far as I am concerned.

You are right, the Chris King Ti at £200 is a lot. But I can get one from china for about £100, same price as a CK silver headset. Still a lot of money for a bit of bling. But I'd probably pay £40 to £50 for a decent Headset anyway. So "only" an extra £50 to £60. But if they creak I would be really annoyed.

See that's where you are going wrong - China. You really don't know if it's the real deal or knock off. And I wouldn't be surprised if a Chinese headseat by 'Chris King' creaked.
Personally I would only buy from reputable dealers. even if it means paying that bit extra.

Titanium is not very hard wearing - I've had a few part Titanium part Steel cassettes and the Titanium always wears out before the steel.

I think the longevity ration is something like 1 year titanium to 3 years steel from similar usage.

I didn't mean to infer that the one from China was a Chris King imitation or knock off. I was just quoting the price and comparing it to the price of CK headset. The one I can get is from a very reputable supplier who has provided lots of Ti frames without problems.
