I have been eyeing up the On-One Ti 45650B SRAM X01. However, in comparison with any other similarly spec'd bikes it is much cheaper. For example,I can buy this bike today for £1999 compared to £4500 for a Stanton Titanium complete hardtail. Is there a big diffrerence in quality between the On-One frame and other titanium frames on the market? I should add that my budget is around £2500. Should I avoid the On-One titanium option and go for a quality steel frame hardtail? Thanks

I think the price difference is due to spec quality and the frame being different. (of quality, i'm not sure) - I couldn't find which bike you were referring too specifically by "Stanton Titanium complete hardtail." but in any case, I highly doubt the £2000 price you pay extra gives you £2000 of a stronger frame.

And yes, there are such massive price gaps between TI frames, but strangely even your On-One frame is hand made and looks to be of decent quality. I would not hesitate to call that a good price for a TI frame.

- The price difference between the steel On-One and the TI On-One is very respectable, the looks are different to my eye and I find the titanium much more appealing; that said, if it was my money I would buy the steel - On the basis, that I'd be far too worried about getting it both dirty, scratched and damaged if I had got the TI frame, but its your money. - But Spending anything over £1,500 on a Steel bike always yields alot of smiles.

Thanks for the replies. I dug a bit deeper into the On One pricing structure and it seems that by bypassing the normal distribution channels, bike shops, online resellers etc..they can keep the price low. However, this may come at the cost of aftersales care, for example. It's a lot of money to spend on a bike and I would really like to hear back from anyone who owns or has ridden(On) one before taking the plunge!

Can't comment on the specific frame, but we've had a number of Planet X/On One bikes and have been very pleased with them. The bikes are decent quality (the older carbon pro road frames are ridden by loads of club riders round here).

Planet X themselves were always easy to deal with and have quickly and professionally dealt with one or two minor issues that arose with the bikes ( a cracked mech hanger and a front hub issue). However...like most mail order suppliers, some people have not been as fortunate with Planet X customer service - and we have the advantage of being 30 minutes away from the store in Sheffield.
