I've got Ti. handlebars on my MTB, they have an alloy boss where they clamp to the stem and its come loose so the bars twist round any idea what it will be bonded with and how do I restick it?

I would scrap them. I feel it would be hard to get a safe bond again.

well if they were bonded in the first place I can't really see why it's not worth a go. Some kind of loctite would probably do and may seep in througj capilliary action. Read their website for exaclty the right stuff.

Ideally I'd see if they come out completely so you can check for cracks etc.

That said, at your own risk of course

The trouble being you might find out how effective the "Having a go" proved to be on a 50mph descent. Bars are one of the things I would never take a chance on, they don't have to break to throw you off, just swiveling in the clamp will do.

Whilst I see the point, but brakes (say) are also safety critical, but we all fix our brakes after all.

Brakes in otherwise good condition should not fail, and many people have 2. A handlebar failure may be somewhat serious . Avoid regret, try some new bars. Your teeth will thank you for it.

The bars are perfect its the bars are just loose in the centre allloy boss. Rode it last week for four hours off road no sweat, only found the problem when i fitted a new stem a couple of days ago. Some stuff must be able to bond them back together.

Just go and buy Ritchey WCS Alloy bars. As light as the plastic ones and stronger... Go do it......

Got WCS on my commuter.. Best bars ever.

Any number of things will bond Ti to aluminium. The question is, when will it come unstuck, and what will happen when it does? For the same of a few pounds, I'd get some new bars and stop worrying. You don't want to have plenty of time to regret it while they're reassembling your face...

All it can do if it fails is twist if I'm pulling on the bar ends, cannot come out or fall off as the centre boss is still in the stem clamp.

Ant666 has made his mind up that he knows better than we do, so we best let him get on with it.

Love the last line of his, "it will only twist"
