One I just started doing - Used red nail varnish to mark the "Quick Link" on my chain. Makes it so much easier to find if you need to split the chain again.

How hard can it be to find? There are only 58 places it can hide and if your chain is clean, the quick link having a different shine to it, reveals itself at a glance. Besides, that varnish adds weight.

Similarly if you are unsure of how many teeth on a particular cog or chainring and can't see the number stamped on anywhere, a dab of tippex or, if you're Friday night glam  , red nail varnish on one tooth helps the count go swimmingly.

I'll second that.

Fortunately my wife has 52 different shades of nail varnish, which is just enough to get round.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
- still on chains: I use a bag tie twisted through one of the links to mark it when lubing the chain roller by roller. It goes through the rear mech no problem.

Paint your thumb nail a different colour nail varnish to the rest so you never mistake it for your little finger. Particularly relevant for Campag users.

Sorry, you'll need to explain that. After owning 4 Fiats, I don't ever want anything Italian ever again. Except pizza. And pasta. And vino rosso. But other than that, nothing Italian.

One would have thought there was a lesson in there after the first f.......Fiat. Even my dog knows not to eat a bumble bee after just one try. Anyway, Pasta and Pasqua is like Campag and Pinarello. Pure Perfection.
