This is my tip for anybody who's looking for good cold weather gloves. I bought a pair of Jack Wolfskin fleece mits. The bit where the four fingers go folds back and velcros out of the way when you need your fingers, as does the thumb, the latter being an improvement on the earlier model, so now you really can do fiddly things if you have to.
The only drawback I can see is that the palm is covered by a piece of synthetic leather which eventually wears out and cracks up. I took the gloves to a tailor and got the synthetic replaced with real leather and also got them to put a small amount of padding behind the leather. This now adds up to what I reckon is the ideal cold weather cycling glove atlhough they were not specifically designed as such. The only other thing I have done is to get a pair of goretex shell mits as an outer covering for really foul, wet weather.
