Can someone give me an idea of how times for cycling 50 and 100 miles would compare with times for running half marathon and Marathon? eg, 3 hour marathon is pretty quick for a club runner, 4 hours attainable etc.

I have no idea what a decent time is for cycling, but do for running, is there a way to extrapolate?

Cycling times are affected by many things.
Hills
Traffic
Road conditions
Weather conditions
Potential stops from traffic lights etc..
And more..

So it's hard to say how long. Especially if you try to compare pros to non pros. Pros will often go out in a group and that makes a difference, espcially if it's well organized.

I appreciate the stuff re lights etc and hills, running also a bugger in hills!

What about flatish courses then? Or a link to somewhere where there is a list of finishing times in a 50 or 100 mile sportive? Can work out the percentiles from that.

100k this morning, zero traffic light stops, lovely!

I've done 50 miles in just over 3 hours, and I'm nothing special in terms of fitness. Also did a 54 miles in 3hrs 20 - hillier course, but marginally (not Lake District Vs East Anglia). Just been predicted a sub 2 hour half marathon with only a little training.

I think that is a reasonable start for you to get an idea.

For 100 miles, I'd estimate 7 hours - always finished the 50 mile route with very little left in the tank. But again - very dependent on terrain.
