Some of you may remember that back in December I suffered a Sub Arrachnoid Haemhorrage. The cause was found to be a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The staff in the neuro unit at the RVI in Newcastle successfully repaired the rupture with an endo vascular coiling procedure. Basically a small incision in my groin and a catheter inserted up into the brain. The affected area was then filled with tiny platinum coils. Thankfully everything worked out well and I have made a complete recovery.
However during initial examinations another un ruptured aneurysm was found (lucky me). An attempt was made back in March to treat this in the same way as the first procedure. Unfortunately it wasn't successful. This week on Tuesday I'm returning to Hospital for a more invasive procedure to place a clip over the neck of the aneurysm. Although this involves making an opening in my skull, it should be a one off treatment needing no further follow up.
So it's off the bike for a little while, probably missing the last of the summer. Got my last ride planned for tomorrow, then I will hang up the 'good' bike for a couple of months. At least the imposed lay off will give time to tinker with the winter ride ready for my return.
