Time for a new pump

I've been using a Topeak Race Rocket for a while now, but it failed me last night on the way home. It had collected all kinds of water and grime during a sportive and now it doesn't seem to work at all.

Given that kind of failure, I'm now considering CO2 inflators on the basis that they're mechanically simpler, so less prone to failure.

I wonder if one of the hybrid pump/CO2 inflators might be the ticket. Possibly something like this: http://www.lezyne.com/product-CO2-cfh-pressdrivecfh.php

Lezyne make great pumps. And the one you linked to is perfect. So much so, it's now on my shopping list for a new pump.

CO2 is fine for on the road BUT will deflate over about 3 days (there are numerous threads about the science of that) so you'll still need a proper pump. The Lezyne pumps are pretty good - although I'm not sure I'd get the hybrid over a pump plus a separate simple CO2 adaptor.

I have had a Lezyne CHF for about a year. I have to admit I have never actually used the pump because the only times it was needed the co2 option seemed much easier. Its a simple design and very easy to use,
I do have another Lezyne pump on another bike which has been used quite a few times and has always made light work of getting my tyres back up to pressure.

Interesting; I didn't know about the CO2 deflation problem. I'm fine coming home and bleeding/reinflating my tubes--I have a track pump for that--so I'm not too worried about CO2 leaking out over a few days. As long as the cartridge lets me finish the ride I'm on without spongy tyres, it's good enough!

The Lezyne unit I linked still looks good to me. I'd rather some kind of all-in-one unit that does mini pump + CO2 inflator + gauge, but I'll settle for mini pump + CO2 inflator!

I do see your point about a separate CO2 adaptor, but since I find myself in the market for a new pump anyway...

Picked it up last night. I think the only thing I would change is to look at picking up the alloy bracket instead of the plastic one.

I cross-threaded the hose the first time I stowed it in the handle, but it's been fine ever since.

I am also looking for a pump to mount under the bottle cage on my Giant Defy 0. I have been looking at the Lezyne pumps on-line but am wondering if the mount will go under the bottle cage ok as the Defy has an oversized down tube which my old Topeak pump mount would not fit on. Any suggestions appreciated.

I didn't have any trouble with the size of the down tube on my Vitus Razor. I don't know how it compares to the giant defy, though.

I have a couple of Leyzne's and as good as they are, every now and then they become a nightmare to pump a tyre up because when you screw the connector on, they also tighten down the little locking nut on the valve so you cannot pump the tyre up. Really got infuriated with it one ride this year, when it took about 5 attempts to pump the tyre up.

First time using the lezyne cfh in anger today. I didn't have any problems with the valve grabbing.

Let me say I love CO2 inflators! This was my first time using one and it was a breeze!

Remember when you get home to deflate and re-inflate your tyre with a track pump. Co2 leaches out of the inner tube a lot faster then normal air does.
