Hi, I noticed an old thread about a Tildesley bicycle. I have one in my garage, a men’s racer, bought secondhand in 1960 but has not been used for at least 10 years. I was planning on taking it to the tip this week but before I do wanted to be sure that no one out there had an interest in it. I live in Wokingham.

Welcome @AndrewT
If you were nearer I would be interested but Wokingham is just a bit too far .
I am sure others nearer might be interested like @Gunk
Please make a few more post's so that you can upload some pictures as well please ^_^

Hi All,
Here’s the bike. It would be a shame to junk it after all these years. It just needs some tlc to get it through the next 60 years!

That’s far too nice to scrap, very similar to my 1962 CB Super Coureur. Someone here on the forum would have it, I’m very tempted, just very difficult to find the time to pop down and collect it.

It would be far worse than just a shame to junk it

Beautiful bike - if I had the space, I'd have it in a minute:smile:
I started to have a look at the history of Tildesley Cycles and got this far: 'Tildesley cycles were built at planet works steward street Ladywood , the factory burned down in May 1958 . Fireman G Jones fell through the roof , injuring himself .Tildesley employed 23 people and moved into the factory in 1923 building hand made cycles .' from: http://www.birminghamconservationtrust.org/2019/03/14/a-cycle-conundrum/

and this thread at Retrobike (showing a lugged step through frame) - one of the post states that 'there are VERY few of their bikes left in existence': http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=255921

I've tried to access a catalogue at V-CC, and if successful will link it here too.

Please don't take it to the tip, AndrewT!

PLEASE - Don't take it to the tip !!!
It's far too good for that.
I've just restored my old Carlton, after 35 years in the garage, that was in much-worse condition than that.
Not only did it look far worse .... It wasn't anything close to being ridable, for all sorts of reasons.
Think of it as the original brush - That's had two new heads and three new handles - And is as good as new.

I've inherited this Tildesley Panet, just wondering about age, value?

Hello @daveup & :welcome: to CC

Lovely old 50’s roadster with rod brakes, looks in nice condition too.
Value wouldn’t be great I’m afraid , maybe around £50 on eBay or Gumtree. You should find a date stamped on the SA gear hub. Check those sites for a current value.
If you want a better response post a new thread in this section.
