Anyone got any good tips on bib tights that are good value and not thick full on winter jobies? I have full winter ones just fancy some new ones for the autumn, shorts are a bit cold and my old non bib tights are sh*te.

i'm about to go into my third winter with dhb Merstons(?)

3/4s are the transition between shorts and longs surely, not that I can afford any

Have you thought about leg warmers? Not like they wore in Fame or whatever (though you'd probably look good in them) but proper cycling type ones? Just the thing for autumnal rides.

Quite like the look of these,a shade over £33 a pair and get good reviews on Wiggle.
Only thing is do you have more than 1 pair or wash everyday/every 2 days? I currently would have lycra shorts underneath some Bikesters so would wear a clean pair of shorts everyday and the Bikesters get washed weekly.

The dhb merstons look ok. Do they ride up your ankle much? did have a look for some three quarters in Decathlon at the weekend but they had sold out.

Aldi still have some in - £12.99

Got a pair, but fear I will boil in them until it is properly cold, fully insulated with a proper lining, I just can't see them being all that breathable

Never tried leg warmers, but could be a solution. Think there were some of them in Aldi might pop in tomorrow.

You won't need to worry about tights until windchill brings Equivalent Skin Temperature down to -1 Deg C for an hour.

To get a EST of -1 Deg C, you ride at 15 mph through air which is 8 Deg C for an hour.
Or 14 mph through air that is 9 Deg C ( between stops ) for two hours.

I'm not too snobbish for Aldi. These are excellent value for money. I've tried 2 shops and no leg or arm warmers my size. 1 more branch to try though it's perhaps too late now  .

...or your legs are cold, whichever comes first  ;)

A pair of leg warmers wont set you back much. Probably not worth looking for cheap versions in Aldi/Lidl, imo.

Bear in mind that the Merston is a fleecy "Roubaix" fabric - it's pretty warm, ime.

Until the temp *really* drops, the Earnley 3/4s ("regular lycra) are a good bet, I reckon.

I use a pair of decathlon's sport bibs most of the year (shorts under). Washed every day with the other kit, and they haven't bubbled at all. The same can't be said for the Altura airstream bibs that cost much more, and only get worn out training or on Sportives....

I am planning a jaunt to Decathalon soonish to try and get some cheap kit, their stuff's nice from what I read

Never quite convinced by arm/leg warmers for a commute, I see the argument for long rides, they always look slightly old lady ish to me, as said, I'm a bit poncey for all my zero budget

might give them a whirl perhaps

the Merstons do have a slight pile on but although I find them warm enough for all winter, I don't sweat in them much and I like a sweat

One bib shorts (with hole) and one bib longs, I try and wash every day, sometime two days and now and then a cheeky three days, they hum by then for sure
