how can i tell if the brake levers on my wifes giant avail on a double can be used on a triple or are they only for a double and will have to upgrade to a triple . if i have to up grade how is the cheapest and best way to do it . we live in a very hilly area . any marks or codes to look for

If you're confidant setting up a front mech:
Take the cable out of the front mech, and just see how many positions the shifter has avaliable.... i.e shift down all the way, and count the no. of positions on the way back up...

If its not to late,pull the hood back, There should be a code stamped on the outside edge of the bracket where it goes round the bar, my Tiagra shifters are stamped with ST 4500 and are suitable for double and triple St 4501 are double only and ST4503 are triple only, I upgraded my Giant to a triple it cost just over a hundred pounds using a sora chainset and front mech and Tiagra rear mech and cassette the Sora chainset is compatible with the Tiagra bottom bracket cups, I bought my bits from Ribble cycles
no its not to late .just checked and code is st 4500 so thank you very much for telling me that .now got to get on to ribble web site and order the bits
