We drive an 09 Passatt estate and after extensive web research I ordered this particular carrier as it is supposedly ideal for our car.
After a bit of assembly and faffing about with the fitting, it seems we have a problem. It hooks on top of the tailgate door and hooks under at the bottom and is supposedly secure when the door is closed (plus there are a couple of push-down clamps which close any "slack" in the frame). The problem is that the car is telling us that the tailgate is still open - on inspection the door is closed flush to the car and there is no visible gap, to the naked eye it looks properly closed.
So, we drive along with the alarm occasionally pinging to say that the boot is open, sometimes it thinks the boot is ok and not open. We are unable to lock the car with the rack attached because the alarm goes off - clearly there is something causing a break in the circuit to show all doors closed, even though it looks closed!
Has anyone else had experience with this carrier and could you suggest a solution?
