I came to fit the brake hanger on my new build and hit a problem. The hanger had a little tab on the inner, but no matching notch on the steerer tube, so won't fit over it. Even if I find a hanger without the tab, what's to stop the hanger turning out of line with the forks?

Hangers that clamp on to the steerer such as these are available for different steerer sizes by different manufacturers.

Oh I see, thanks, so that clamps around the steerer and becomes part of the stack with the stem clamp and spacers?

Leads me on to another question, with the current spacers and stem clamp, the height of the stack is slightly above the top of the steerer tube (so far uncut). Is it ok to have a slight gap between the top of the tube and the top of the stem clamp? Or should I get a combination of spacers or cut the tube to meet the exact top of the clamp if you see what I mean? With the addition of one of those clamp on hangers, it would make the gap wider.

One will not be able to use the cap to compress the stack/headset if the steerer is at the same level or higher than the stem/spacer. See section on Headset Adjustment here.

Cheers mate, will get a hanger and some assorted spacers, the gap at the moment is more than three mm, and the addition of the hanger will increase that, so will replace one spacer with a smaller one. Thanks.
