Hi

I have a threadless bottom bracket in my SS. the thread is to worn on the drive side, so hence i went for a zenith bottom bracket.

The problem is the bottom bracket keeps coming loose. i have tried Loctite 243 but it came loose again.
Thinking of asking my LBS if they would chase the thread.

Has anyone ever had the thread re-chased.

this is really doing my head in, as i really like this frame and just want it sorted.

cheers

I have a Prestige threadless BB in my Carlton after the threads stripped. I have had no issues.

One thing to check is that some threadless BBs require a chamfer cut on the inside BB shell. I specifically selected the Prestige because it didn't.

Also, is it the correct width? You probably have a 68mm width shell but the BB may have been designed for 70 or 73mm shell. In which case, try a lock ring from an old cup and cone bracket as a spacer.

chasing will only work if there is metal to cut - since you say the thread is worn, you will be cutting air.

where did you get your Prestige threadless BB?

the shell width is definitely 68mm and the BB is also.

I take it that the thread on the new BB is causing the problem.

It may be that the thread is too coarse for the 243 so I'd try ptfe tape on it - wind it on against the direction it threads and then press the tape down to ensure good coverage.

You then just tighten up slowly and you should get a could tight fit.
