I have a recently got some new forks but the top bit is too long so I wanted to ask if it was possible to cut and re-thread the forks??

cant see why not if right tools available to do job , could you not space them out ?

Of course, just make sure the guy who cuts the thread has the correct die for the job, and take your time sawing the excess off - I mean, don't get it wrong and slice off too much!

And no, you can't use spacers - if there's not enough thread to run the top race onto the bearings, then you're buggered basically. :smile:

The fork doesn't need re-threading, he needs more thread as he hasn't got enough thread to tighten the top bearing.

I watched my mate in the local LBS extend a thread only the other day, took him about 5 minutes no problem. Mind you he'd bought t the threading kit from Park tool so I expect it wasn't cheap.
