What an odd bunch

(great language, sounds like middle English. It's like I can almost understand it but not quite)

About to start learning Dutch at my sisters request as she does not speak English very well.

The world record is held by a Dutch guy called Dennis Storm - he managed 69 in 1 minute (it was shown on Dutch TV about 6 weeks ago).

I did a cassette course in Dutch once. It's a bit like English and a bit like German, but more like German. It has a lot of French loan words, and as it was a peasant's language for so long, not so much grammar. Almost exactly what you'd expect given its geography and history. Also Flemish and Dutch are practically the same.

I studied German at university and came back from my year there on the train through Holland, I wasn't sure about my stop and didn't speak the lingo then but I could understand perfectly the reply (not this one the next) when I said the name to a passenger.

Wouldn't advise calling them Dutch in person. It comes from deutsch - german.
