Thomson Titanium MTB Bars - shortening/cutting?

Greetings all

Mrs BernieUK decided to buy me a surprise birthday present - namely some Thomson Titanium MTB flat bars. Lovely though they are they are simply too long at 73cm. If I was to say to Mrs BernieUK thanks but no thanks & can you return them please for something else cannot not be an option. I would never hear the end of it.

So, I was thinking of trying to shorten them down to 60cm. I have used pipe cutters in the past to shorten alloy handlebars without any problem but I cannot imagine I could cut titanium with them. I have a basic hacksaw but that is unlikely to do the job either - nor do I have a worktable, clamp or miter block for that matter.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen does anyone have any ideas other than the obvious of just get bloody use to the extra length? Anyone ever cut titanium bars successfully?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Titanium is easier to cut than stainless steel.
Although it's harder than stainless, it breaks into chips more easily. A good quality hacksaw will do it no trouble.
I've even cut small diameter thin wall titanium with a cheapo pipecutter designed for 'copper only - not suitable for stainless' but the blades don't last long.

Thank you for replying. The pipecutter I have is a Bahco 305-35 which is, according to the Bahco website, able to cut copper and steel so I will give it a go on the handlebars. I have a couple of spare blades for it too. The titanium should be fairly thin I can imagine.

The pipecutter should at least give a reasonable guide mark for me to finish the job with a good quality hacksaw.

Thanks again.
