Hi alci4. If you are not sure, your question is not stupid.

Sorry to say that yes, your tyre is deceased, dead, extinct, gone to its maker. It would be totally unsafe to use it again.

Gerry Attrick is not wrong.

If I may give a friendly tip, clicking on your pics produces massive images. There is a way of resizing so that they just fill the screen.;)

The tyre will be fine. Just get a needle and some thick, strong thread and sew the hole up. Then get a plastic drinks bottle and cut out a piece approx 2cm bigger than the hole and plave between the inner tube and tyre. Then pray it will work.....

What is the way then snorri. I've seen a lot of folks have really big images on their posts. I've not been unlucky to have had that problem so far.

Regarding the OP's tyre. Yes "This tyre is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the rim 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-TYRE!! (Thank you Monty Python) .

Like you, I have not yet been unlucky either, but usually reduce the original size before attempting to upload to CC.

Must of happened very close to home, you would of noticed that happening. A bang and maybe a big bump as you hit something, the kerb or a pothole maybe?

I had a tyre that looked like that once, it was caused indirectly by somebody's mutt running across my front wheel. I ended up steering into a wall and knocking one of my front panniers into the wheel, this led to the loss of a couple of spokes and the front wheel going out of true. I then released the front brakes and pushed the bike to the nearest bike shop, however because it was out of true the wheel kept rubbing on the brake blocks and wore a hole in the side wall near the rim. Needless to say that front tyre ended up going in the bin and being replaced.

Probably a good idea to have a close look at the other tyre just in case it has been damaged by the same debris/whatever!
