its more of a challenge now

yeah, its a cable lock, and it'll only ever be locked up at work, in a private bike shelter, the lock is merely for added security (CCTV would be able to show who had plenty of time on their hands to try and work it out)

Got the lock for free from Halfords when I ordered my Specialized through C2W, after I made up the difference with loads of accessories, forgot a lock, so they threw one in for free, a Magnum one, whatever that is, all well and good having a lifetime guarantee against someone trying to use cable clippers, but if i crack this combo, its a stupid system....

Anyway, any help is gratefully accepted, by PM of course

yeah bin it - not worth working out what the combination is if the thief can open it easily with a very simple technique I am not going to explain here.

Maybe you could PM the OP with your method and help him out?

I had someone come into the shop I worked in carrying a bike locked with a combination lock - and proof of ownership.

It had been in the shed for a while and she'd forgotten the combination.

In less than a minute from looking at it, the bike was unlocked and the lady in question was shocked and looking at new bike locks.

OK, that was one of those really nasty thin chains with the cylindrical combi lock, qall wrapped in a blue plastic sleeve

Never tried other combination locks, can't imagine them being TOO difficult to suss out

I'm assuming you set it yourself, so I imagine there are only a handful of numbers you would have picked. That should make the odds better than 1000/1!

I remember when the first cable locks with in-line cylinders came in in the 60s. They were so pitifully easy to open - 10 seconds, usually - that we used to swap the locks around on the bikes at school.

I haven't tried the T shaped cable locks like the Magnum, but as 3BM says your nearest twelve year old will explain how to do it.

And for anyone feeling smug at getting a shackle lock with radial tumblers, which are often touted as 'unbreakable', just lookee here
