According to Top Gear magazine 90% of drivers got a speeding ticket in the last twelve months. Whether it's all drivers or just those polled - if its true isn't that an extraordinary figure?

You have to ask yourself who would be filling in a Top Gear poll? That might explain the high percentage.

Well in which case there will be a lot fewer cars on the road in 3 years time if the trend continues:thumbsup: (or they could just be exaggerating:whistle:).

It would be extraordinary if it were true, without sources (I had a quick look and didn't turn anything useful up) it's tricky to comment. It doesn't sound like it might be true, even if it relates only to a portion of Top Gear magazine readers (if the question was "have knowingly broken the speed limit" i'd more likely accept it as being plausible- getting a ticket? nah).

"So you think you were unlucky getting stopped for speeding? Not so - a horrifying 90 percent of us have been nicked in the past year at least once, according to new figures. The stats drop sharply after that, meaning that the government will probably say cameras are obviously working. "

Which also has a graphic which tells us that cyclists annoy only 36% of Admiral customers - after 'the elderly' 41% and taxi drivers 37%.

Who are 'us'? There's absolutely no way that 90% of all car drivers got nicked in the past year.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

It's a mis-reading of the data. Of the 4% of drivers who have been caught speeding, 90% have been caught exactly once. Page 22.

Interesting... My first thought was it couldn't be true, however, my family in my area are:

Me - no speeding fine
Wife - speeding fine
Father in law - speeding fine
Mother in law - speeding fine
Sister in law - speeding fine

So - perhaps!

may be but may be not (FWIW my first car was a mk iii xr3i and my last car a audi A4 2.8 quattro, though my OH now has a vw passat 1.9 tdi more for fuel economy - the Audi did 220miles to a tank around town in winter but was dam good fun to drive)

me - no
husband - once (before I knew him and I've known him since 1991)
brother 1 - no and he's a courier for a living which could be why he changes companies so often!
brother 2 - does not drive
sister - no (would need to double check though)
mother - no
step father - don't think so and it would surprise me if he had knowing his 'old-man' style of driving
mother-in-law - no
father-in-law - no
