Last winter I struggled like hell with the new found COLD

See at 40 stone, I wore shorts, even when it was snowing  but now, I'm cold on all but the hottest days.

I was wearing up 6 layers and was still cold, so now, with winter just round the corner (WELL I do live up north) Im looking for suggestions to keep me as warm as possible when it hits the minus figures again

my feet were one area I struggled like hell with

Wish i had the answer gb, i struggle too in the winter, although not right now. 1/2 hours riding in the winter and my fingers n toes are so cold it hurts. Ive tried all sorts of glove / liner combos, nothing seems to help, i must be a circulation thing.
Got me a pair of lobster motorcycling gloves ready for this winter...its that bad.
I'm considering leg and arm warmers too working on the principle of heat loss through the extremities, perhaps you could try that.

Move down south!

I would start with a decent merino baselayer & layer up.

For the feet, I use Endura road overshoes, they are neoprene & do wonders for keeping the feet snug.

I find my fingers get cold whatever I wear! I am currently on sealskinz waterproof gloves wheich seem to be OK.

This winter I will be buying some Gore-Tex boots, that combined with 2 pairs of socks should be enough hopefully.
Gloves wise I will try a pair of liner gloves under my normal winter glove, I did try a pair of ski-ing gloves last year which were lovely and warm but too restrictive.

Anyway, we might have a nice mild winter ;)

My only comments would be if you sweat in the cold then that cools you down really quickly. I find the best combination is not too much insulation, but a good windproof layer on top - that must include your extremities i.e. good long gloves which cover up the ends of your sleeves, boots which stop your ankles getting chilled, and a thin hat under the helmet (and a waterproof cover over the helmet) which stops the wind getting to your head.

In the coldest weather I wear goretex fleece-lined mittens designed for walking.

six layers?

merino is worth it from my limited experience of a pair of part merino socks, light and comfy and warmer than bulkier winter socks, plus overshoes that did me fine and I suffer from fet in the cold

I used to suffer from cold feet until I tried this combination - Endurance winter overshoes, merino wool socks, loosely fastened shoes to ensure full blood circulation.

On my hands magic gloves (about £1 available everywhere stretchy so fit all) and cycling gloves on top. For extremely cold days I wear fleece lined gloves but not often.

Legs lightweight fleece lined bibs.

Upper body base layer, winter shirt and windproof outer layer.

On my head and neck one of those tubular things for skiing.
