Apologies if this has been covered before.

Am thinking of going clipless and need some advice.

I've tried SPD and Shimano plus a few others but can't get on with single sided pedals.

I've looked at Speedplay but it's above the budget (so the accountant tells me ).

Any suggestions on double sided clipless pedals (if there are any others) within a reasonable budget.

Weight/looks not important.

Thanks
Juan

'SPD and Shimano?' Pardon? Do you mean SPD or SPD-SL (or both)?

Double-sided clipless:
(i)Mountain (two-bolt recessed cleats):
SPD
Time ATAC
Speedplay Frog
Look Quartz
Crank Brothers

(ii) Road (three-bolt exposed cleats)
Speedplay Light Action/Zero/X-series

Don't know if you'd consider M324 pedals by Shimano. For cleats one side and flat on the other - if you are a newbie to clipless. I haven't dared it yet.

It's a Road Bike. Thanks.

Just because it's a road bike doesn't mean you have to put road pedals on it...find something that suits you. Self and many others run SPDs or other mountain systems on road bikes.

Pretty much every SPD pedal (with the exception of the flat/SPD combo ones) is double-sided.

Yes, I too use SPD pedals on my road bike as I sometimes use it for cycling to the station en-route to work so like the flexibility of being able to walk in SPD shoes. As a compromise, I use racing style MTB shoes with a rigid/solid sole which give a firm platform for longer rides.

p.s. StuAff, I like the Avatar, a quality album cover. Just bought the digitally re-mastered cd to put on the i-pod to get me in the mood for some cycling down in France.

Ye I got mine yesterday. Attached them this morning it's really nice

Only difficultly I need to overcome is getting the pedal as it's one sided.

Got 105 nd r077 package for just under £90 in Evans

Just call me Chris...
I gave up on the spd-sl after a couple of dodgy moments trying to cross busy roundabouts and failing to clip in.
I went back to spd and haven't looked back. In my case, I didn't notice any improvement with the sps-sl anyway

Shimano M520s are the cheapest (£20) double sided clippless pedal. Made really for MTBs but lots of people use them on road bikes. Just made sure the fashion police are not looking!
