Hi,

Ever on the hunt for a bargain, Im looking to get some deals on wither clothing.

I will only really be doing about 10 miles a day to the gym and back about 4 or 5 days a week, so no need for the super-duper stuff, but I would like to be good enough that I dont start thinkin about being lazy and taking the car!
Im looking for suggeestions for waterproof boots (2 bolt SPD cleats), Jacket and trousers.

All info appreciated!

I too am waiting for a bargain on the winter boot front, Shimano MW80's preferably, not paying £135 though

Would really like a decent Gore-Tex jacket too, I'll keep an eye out

I have heard that the Simano MW80 are warm and waterproof. I have also seen the Specialized defrosters, which tend get reviews as "Waterproof, but not that warm" but with the use of nice warm sock they are warm, but without makes them cool enought for wet spring and autumn riding.

I had a pair of the Shimano boots, they didn't keep my feet warm when it dropped below five degrees, and they have a very thick sole. If you use different pairs of shoes on the same bike it causes a problem as the saddle height is different for the boots compared to a normal pair of cycling shoes.

I don't know what your budget is for a jacket, but this is a bargain - http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=8138&categoryID=207

Slightly warm this time of year, but with a winter weight base layer and top underneath it kept me warm and dry, and breathed well too.

Schwalbe marathon winter studded tyres are fairly cheap on Wiggle at the mo (20% off) (700x35 or 26") plus use the code PAYPAL5 for an extra £5 off a pair.

these tyres are impossible to get once the ice and snow arrives!

For 10 mile rides, winter boots are probably not essential. A decent pair of overshoes would do the trick and certainly be cheaper.

I find that winter boots can be a bit of a pfaff to put on and remove, and feel restrictive to wear. I wear mine for colder club runs but, in all truth, would prefer to be in shoes, winter weight socks and overshoes.

Have you used Bike Pimp? It's a pretty good place to start searches, if you know what you're after, but it's by no means comprehensive. I used to use it loads years ago but it no longer seems to lead me an eventual purchase these days. I tend to have 5 or 6 fave places to (online) shop these days.

I just 'won' some new GORE tights on eBay for £19 delivered...hopefully not as thick as my Decathlon ones so better for some mornings which are still a bit chilly for 3/4 length.

So a good time to buy winter kit (these retail for £50-60)

Just hope they fit
