My commuter bike has developed a new sound when peddling hard to describe sound a bit intermittent thought it was front mech but not thought it could be my gears not indexing properly but wondering if a loose spoke could do it checked them and one made a creaking of noise and flexed a bit never come across this before your thoughts would be helpful thanks

Does it occur more with the bigger gears, or on hills ? You may then check to see that your crank arms are tight. This may sound like a creaking noise, often present at the same spot in the revolution of the cranks. Spokes may also be a culprit, but they seem to make more of a ping sort of noise.

Saddle rails is one of the most common noises, along with creaking from the cables where they enter the ferruls on the down tubes. Well at least that is my experience, of course this could well not be the case here.
