Things to do at work that are interesting and not work

Afternoon all.

Had a dull morning in the office actually doing some work related tasks. Went really slowly and did not have time to log in to cycle chat. Plan the afternoon to go more smoothly and pass some of the time catching up with some of the posts.

Also can anyone suggest fun/safe alternatives to actually doing the day job whilst in the office?

In my old office we used to quite regularly enjoy a game of Sellorape, plus the timeless 'spin around on a chair for 10 seconds then run to the other side of the room' game.

Bear with me on this...it sounds wierd at first

On some of the older calculators, you can press
'1 + 1'. It will of course total '2'. On my old one, if you continued pressing '+'...it would continue counting.

Soooooo......we used to have a competition to see who could count the highest in 1 minute. Cue frantic tapping on the '+':tongue::wacko:

Beware tho...it can have embarrassing consequences.
I sat there one day in my large L shaped office...alone.

I'm bored....so i started tapping furiously ...got to about 30 seconds...looked up.... there was a stranger sat over the other side of the office. I had'nt seen him. He was looking at me as though i was mad

Errrr....slow down tapping...look at calculator as though to say 'whats the matter with this thing'. Couple more taps....look disgusted at the calculator...throw it across the desk...get another calculator out of the drawer and pretend to continue with proper calculations.

I didnt fool him.....i'm not fooling anyone  It's a bit like slipping over in public

The Nob Game is always a good one for passing the time. It consists of replacing the word "love" with the word "nob" in song titles. You know - My One And Only Nob; Nobbly to Look At, Tainted Nob, Can't Get Enough of Your Nob, and so on. We have a particularly sophisticated work environment.

I've a variant on that called the chutney game. Replace any word you like with the word chutney, e.g.
Metallica - and chutney for all!
Nirvana - Smells like teen chutney
etc...
Always greatly improved by the addition of alcohol...

gbb - many an hour was killed in maths lesson doing that. It's strangely fun/addictive! I remember our glee when we discovered it

When I was at school, handheld calculators hadn't yet been invented  !

Repeatedly opening and closing a set of log tables wouldn't be quite as much fun!

(For the young 'uns who will never have heard of 'em - by log tables, I don't mean tables made from bits of tree, I mean tables of logarithms)

We did have a vodaka challenge which involved a starting point at the back end of the office, running through the whole office, through reception and across the road to the pub, ordering and downing the vodka, and the returning to the staring point as quickly as possible.

But this was when i was young and foolish. The Nob/Chutney game sounds amusing though.
