Thin waterproof overshoes

What do you guys wear when it's warm but you know it's going to be persisting it down when you're out for a ride ? I have some thick neoprene overs but these are much too warm for anything over about 5-8 deg C. Another option is waterproof socks maybe ?
I like cycling in rain, but hate having to put on wet shoes when it's time to come home after work. There isn't really anywhere at work to dry shoes, and the lockers don't allow enough ventilation for much drying to happen.

I have a pair of SealSkinz socks. When it rains, the water runs down my legs and the socks fill up internally at the ankle.. Squelch, squelch.

Maybe the answer is simpler. I saw a contruction worker on an MTB a couple of years ago. He had put a pair of Lidl plastic bags over his boots and made a solid seal at the top by duct-taping them to his hairy calves.
