Anyone have any suggestions for the above guys,
its not prolonnged pain really, just annoying aching
which Im hoping will calm after a couple more months or so of cycling
the 6 mile round journey work/home,
any muscle rubs anyone may suggest or maybe even what you think of strtching exerzise.
I have used my bike on and off for 17 years,
but really only over the past two months used it so frequently everyday.

First advice with any leg pain is usually to check your saddle height

General rule is sit on your seat and place the heal of your shoe on the pedal and you should have a slight bend in the knee many people use this method

The general rule of thumb is if you put your heel on the pedal, your leg will be full extended, when you move your foot to the normal location, this introduces a small bend in the knee.

It is a decent rule of thumb but it doesn't work for everyone, especially those with proportionally small or large feet.

Good stuff thanks guys, I will sort that out over the weekend,
no bike today, its too bloody windy, it killed me getting home yesterday ;-)
I have always thought cyclists had their seats far too high
now I know why,,

It is much more common that people have the saddle too low than too high, due to lingering rules of thumb from when you are a kid, such as being able to touch the ground with your tip toes when sitting on the saddle. Putting the saddle up to the proper height often means not being able to touch the ground when seated on the saddle, this makes some people feel unsafe at 1st.

And how far out your knees splay.
I dont think they do at all to be honest
I have watched other cyclists and noticed they do this
But mine tend to be straight,, bare in mind I have had a hip operation
and am using the bike to help build the leg up after a 12 month period without riding

I used the heel on pedal rule and my thighs were still aching, adjusted it another 1/2 inch so far and my thighs are feeling much better and more efficient also the saddle to bar height looks much more normal for a road bike I.e saddle high/bars low.
