Just on the verge of getting a thermal jacket for the winter and as I'm going to be wearing base or thermal vests underneath so I was wondering what is the best type of jacker to get.
1/ Tight fit jacket with thermals underneath.
2/ Relaxed fit jacket with thermals underneath..

No baggy fit.

The other factor is, I need to keep very warm but I wont be racing but I might be going as fast as I can.

What do you wear?

My choice would always be for a well fitting jacket that's windproof on the front only. Relaxed fit is the same as baggy isn't it? For fast riding then you'll rarely need a full on winproof/waterproof jacket.

My recommendation would be something like the Santini Touch (http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?typ=typ&fkid=3&ID=3219) which at £70 is a bargain. It's a nice fit and so far I've worn it up to around 10 degrees with a lightweight baselayer and down to zero degrees with a thicker merino baselayer and I've been comfortable (neither too warm nor too cold). I'd steer clear of anything that claims to be a relaxed fit for anything other than commuting. I have an Altura Nightvision windproof that claims to be new improved fit, but compared to the Santini Touch it's just horrible and baggy. And that's a jacket that many people think is fitted! It's fine for commuting, but not for proper riding.

I swear by the Foska Toastie http://www.foska.com/marmite-toastie-thermal-jacket.html.
Warm, Great fit. Water proof (not sold a a waterproof as they do not tape the seams, but has kept me dry in the worst of conditions). Very breathable and some great designs. My 7 year old Marimte has just been relegated in favour of a new and even better London Pride.

Hmm, are you riding in Spain?

How many miles are you doing on a ride (i.e how long are you out cycling)?

Having owned one of those I'd say it's far too toastie for fast riding on all but the coldest of winter days. And I'd describe the designs as interesting.

Another good Foska jacket is the Tangent waterproof soft shell currently £40 down from £70, more of a jacket jacket with pukka pockets with zips as opposed to the toastiewhich has the tradition 3 rear pockets only. Tangent is not a warm or breathable as the toastie but is more waterproof

How do the Foska Toastie's fit in the sizing are they just about right or are they on the smallish side..
