I want to try these this winter but where can I buy? The websites offer undisclosed brands/materials at c. £3 but with an additional £6 or so for p&p; that seems ridiculous/unacceptable.

So, any reason not to buy Thinsulate and where? What type of store - builders' merchant perhaps?

I'm guessing you'll be paying for certainty? I have found some wool & foam ones at Barratts Shoes for 90p a pair, with £2 delivery on all orders over £5... so that'll be 6 pairs for £7.39... and if they're no good you've got some spare for Christmas presents for aged relatives.
