Out on my bike today and heard the tell tale ping of a broken spoke in the rear wheel. Being a novice, I decided against attempting to fix it myself so headed off to my lbs with the wheel. Within 25 minutes the guy had done the repair and all for £2.50. How's that for service?
p.s. I give him a fiver.

I have had some of the nicest service in bike shops, a few years ago I took my bike in for a puncture repair while I was at work and they said they only wanted a pack of biscuits, i have had odd little things done for free and the other day they gave me a free turbo trainer tyre (worth a whole £24.99!) how nice is that?!! cycling folk are the nicest in the world they really are.

Maybe if cycle shop realised that thier service is influenced by remarks made on forums, the service quality could get better.
The two local Halfords seem to employ young folk who are maybe not into cycling, and it does look as if they don't have any knowelge, This does not include all the staff, Samways in Derby can't do enough for you.

Kirkpatrick's in Dumfries.

It's a very friendly shop. They gave instant service when I turned up with a wheel that had developed cracks in the rim around several several spokes. Within 15 minutes I had a replacement wheel with new rim tape and the inner tube, cassette and tyre swapped over.

It made all the difference to my LEJOG trip. The wheel was reasonably priced too. I don't think they charged me for labour.

I had two brake cables changed in a local shop today for the grand total of £1.99 (yes, I know I should probably be able to do it myself, but then again, at that rate it would take considerably longer and still cost the same...)

I rest my case.

Sorry. Samways have the rudest, least helpful service department on the planet.

"Maybe if cycle shop (sic) realised that thier service is influenced by remarks made on forums, the service quality could get better."

Sound familiar?

I rest my case.
