Itching to get back on my bike's

picked up this not so vintage 80's Barry Hoban by Coventry Eagle 531 racer a couple of weeks back so decided to dig it out this week and start trying it out as poss winter commuter ! first ride round block lasted 30 seconds and back in garage to find spanners for some very basic adjustments , next run round block we did 1.5 miles and all ok ish just very twitchy and nervous feeling bike . so back in to garage for basic clean and check over out it comes with cleaned & regreased headset etc etc and it feels better just not right . so early start this morning to find rear tyre has grown a mushroom so change tyre and look at brake cable as the brakes felt real stiff only to find both cables seized in outers ! so replaced tyre and new cable off we go to work and hey presto Barry feels very nice and quick showing up to 17.5 mph on way to work so a lot happier tonight . justr do a few more commutes then decide to sell or keep .
