Or are they? In my considered opinion, there's nothing else that comes to mind that betters these excellent programmes...unless YOU know different. So come on; what programmes out there are better than the three above? If they genuinely are, I'd like to see them.

All fine programmes in both previous posts. The only one I can think of to join them is the 1995 series Murder One which was as good as the Sopranos but would just be shaded by The Wire.

I never saw that but if it's as good as the Sopranos, I might have to rectify that. I also never saw "The Shield" which people reckon is one of the best ever.

I am currently trying to watch series 1 of "The Wire" on DVD and find it really hard going. I cannot understand what half the people are saying, most of the time I get "F*** you, you c*** s*****... "and then the rest is complete gobbledy-gook. I have to keep going back again and again. I am getting increasingly frustrated :becool: :becool:

You forgot Celebrity Cash in the Attic - in which I learned that Bobby George's house is shaped like the flight of a dart. FACT.

That's pretty much it, replace EoD with The Rockford Files though.

Stick with it. Before you know it you'll be talking B'more street slang.

I'd read the book on which the series was based so I'd already picked up some of the technical drugs terms. Found myself referring to the refilling of the tuck-box at work yesterday as the 're-up'.

Sopranos is great.
Haven't got round to The Wire
Never watched NYPD Blue

IMHO the best by far I've watched in recent years is The West Wing.

I'm looking forward to the Wire when it comes to BBC2 at the end of the month. I have also heard the sub-titles are a useful way of keeping up with the dialect. The Wall Street Journal apparently produced a jargon buster some time back.

Murder One first season was excellent. The subsequent ones much less so.

I also enjoyed This Life at the time but couldn't quite make it through all the re-runs a short while ago.

Is it really?:eek::ohmy:

Constant use of the F word and the N word. The Mary Whitehouse legacy will be on the blower!
