My only experience of volunteering at a sporting event was being encouraged by a friend to marshall at a national cross country running meet in Buckinghamshire. My job was to stand at a corner for four hours, propped against a tree in the drizzle, holding a big arrow pointing to the right. A job that took a morning as each group, segregated by gender and age splashed by in the mud. A job that could have been done by four cable ties. My reward - a mars bar and the dog end sandwiches left over by the runners after their buffet.

Regarding the golf. It's like cricket or tennis, I'll start watching it towards the end if it looks interesting.

We have taken the day off w*rk (and next week) :hyper:
Off shopping soon for some supplies and will be having a wee picnic in front of the telly this afternoon watching the golf. Then I will get bored and go off and do something else

I shall be waving my European flag and cheering every stroke by the mighty European team.

Only to annoy my Brexit neighbours, of course. Although I do also have American neighbours, so hopefully they will be out.

I don't really like golf and will just normally ignore it, but the over the top coverage the Ryder Cup gets from the BBC is nauseating.

I had a couple of days at Celtic Manor for the Ryder Cup, one was wet and horrible and the other was my favourite sporting day ever. I went back a couple of years later to play the course and just missed out on a hole on one on the 15th. I am a big fan of the Ryder Cup, but I think that this time the Americans will prevail.
