How much does it cost to Oldham?
.......Isn't far off :rolleyes::hyper::hyper:

Have you got any races pencilled in yet?

I'm not down for the 3peaks- haven't done enough this year. I'd normally start off with the Silcoates Scramble but I imagine that'll be waterlogged off the calendar again- It'll have to bee the greetlands 'cross or one of the early NW cross events for me.

I'm going to try to do 7 Western League races. Really looking forward to the one in Pittville Park, Cheltenham. My Dad's coming along to laugh at support me.

Never done any cyclo-cross but quite fancy giving it a go. Anyone know of any open events around Leeds?

A conversation between me and my wife this evening:
Me: "you know what's special about tomorrow?
Mrs JP: "we're going to see my half sister who I only found out about in February?"
Me: "Er, no"
Mrs JP: "our little Rosa is 13 months old?"
Me: "well, there is that, but, er, no"
Mrs JP: "well, what then?"
Me: "well, tomorrow I can finally say that the 'cross season starts next month! How cool is that?"
Mrs JP: "that's wonderful dear. Great news!"

(all true by the way)

If you want to enter into new levels of pain and exhileration I can certainly recommend the Greetlands cross above Halifax and the Silcoates Scramble at Silcoates grammar school near Leeds (although that depends very much on precipitation levels over the summer).

Two very different races- the greetlands is a proper CX race with steep runs (and a part of it is on a BMX course which is great fun) and the Silcoates is like a road crit, but off-road, and with hills. They'll both make you wanna spew.

I couldn't get the BC web site to turn up any results for CX events in Yorkshire, though I haven't spent a huge amount of time searching.

I did find YCCA when searching on Dan's suggestions, though it seems their fun stuff happened through the summer (nice weather for it this year!) and it all gets a bit more serious for the winter season. There is nothing that close to me - maybe I'll just go to a few events to watch instead.

There's very little difference between summer YCCA race fields and winter ones. Its usually the same riders for 95% of the field with possibly the addition of 1 or 2 national standard riders, but they dont tend to race locally on a regular basis anyway.

You'll have to come up with another excuse:smile:

It is exciting, I'm fed up with time trialling. I can't wait to take the TT bike apart and stuff it in the cupboard for the winter.

A couple of weeks ago I rode the ridgeway on my cross bike, mostly in the rain, just to get back into it a bit.

First event near me is an evening event at the end of August (26th) at Herne Hill- might do that, there's another one the following week too.

Otherwise come October there's a load of Central League events in quick succession, my club's event on the 11th, Icknield RC event the following week, then Archer RC at Hillingdon. Then there's a week off. Then another one in Milton Keynes.

That's my whole season there, in five weeks.

I'll probably do some London League events too.

We'll need a race reports thread.

Recently the BC website wasn't working for searching 'cross events (you could search by league but not for cyclocross events in general).

I've just taken a look and they've fixed that now.

I've spent the past year hillrunning again with very little cycling. It's gonna hurt. Mind you, did take the cross bike out a few time recently to test it (and me) and it wasn't so bad.

Races are a different matter though.

Hill running's got to help. I haven't done any running since February.

Must start thinking about training.

Then at some point I'll have to do some. First things first though.
