Hi again.
I had a promotional email from Halfords the other day stating they will give you 20% off a new helmet if you trade your old one in.I think they were also doing other similar deals to but i didn't really look at them
So when i saw this 20% promotion on a new helmet my curiosity and weak mind set has got the better of me on wanting the gadget laden "livell bh60se" helmet.
My old helmet in all honesty is not that great. Its a cheap lidl £10 helmet that has never felt comfortable and is now looking worse for wear. The livell does tick alot of boxes though for me. It has built-in speakers to listen to music and answer phone calls on the very rare occasion anybody wishes to call me, and it also has some very snazzy built in rear facing lights and indicators (not to sure I like the indicators though).
The other feature i like is the SOS emergency call. In the event of an accident the sudden impact on the helmet will send a text message to your chosen contact letting them know that something is wrong.
All these features though really tick the boxes for me. I love listening to music on my bike but headphones in my opinion are dangerous as they can drown the sound out of cars passing by, but livall claims that with there helmet ,the speakers are built-in to the helmet making it easy to hear your surroundings. As i do also alot of night-time cycling the inbuilt safety lights will come in handy as well as the SOS feature as my rides are always solo and off the beaten track in the middle of nowhere.
The only thing that had put me off it was the price. £100 is alot of money for a piece of polystyrene and a few trick electronics but the temptation has got the better of me today where i can trade in my old battered £10 skid lid and get the livall for £80.Its should be in store on Tuesday to try before i buy. Hopefully it will fit me well and not make me look like a complete plonker. If it does i will kindly decline it and look for something else.
I would be very interested to know what you think. Are you a yea or a naa sayer to this skid lid.
Anyway all the very best to you all out there
Johnny :-)))

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Nay.

And if you must...

Lights on helmets are either useless or dangersou. SOS emergency call features are a solution in search of a problem - they're more likely to get set off by mistake than in the circumstances in which they're used. You've said yourself that no-one ever phones you. And if the speakers are loud enough to hear music through they've got just the same problems as headphones. I presume all this lot is powered by bluetooth, so needs regular charging and a large battery in the helmet plus power to your phone - and bluetooth's reliability is dodgy, to say the least. There's also a several hundred page thread on why choosing to wear a helmet might not be sensible.

I really can't see anything to recommend you spending £80.

Loch side.
That helmet sounds like a gangsta gadget to me. Give the old one a wash and wipe, fall in love with it again and carry on as before.
A speaker in a helmet is hardly nirvana.

£62.98 on Amazon. But I wouldn't have one, setting it up before a ride would be fiddly and I expect it wouldn't work anyway. As for those yellow indicator LEDs.... bonkers.

Hi all.
Today i got a phone call from Halfords just to let me know the helmet had arrived into their store. After giving it some serious thought i popped over there this evening to take a look at it. At £80 i wasn't going to make any rash dissisions on it and spent a good time with it making sure it was comfortable and that it looked ok and not gimmicky or brash. The first thing i noticed about it was how comfortable it was compared to my cheap lidl one. It felt really plush on my thick old head. The other pleasing thing i liked was that it looked good on me too. It just looks just like any other helmet with all the electronics hidden away. Even the leds are invisible. . You wouldn't even know they where there, unless they where turned on. The overall quality was really good and well finished. After a cup of coffee and think i went back to halfords and took the plunge and bought it. Setting it up was really easy. It comes with a small handle bar remote to control volume, indicators and answer phone calls. The two small built-in speakers were really clear. Not much bass but non the less still impressive.
I think im going to really enjoy using this helmet. Cycling for hours on end by my self can get a little quiet so i think a little music will be a welcome addition on some days. The SOS function is also a great addition just in case the worst was to happen in the middle of nowhere. Obviously its early day's but from my first impressions i really like it.
It feels like a quality product that does what it says on the tin
Thank you all for your views. I appreciate its not "everybody's cup of tea" but if you was considering one it's a big yaa from me :=)
