Get a cheese grater, rub it vigorously up and down your face until you bleed and then think, I would like to do that again please.

The infamous 200km Kidderminster Killer audax takes place on 12th September. This event is packed full of sharp steep climbs through picturesque countryside. Kidderminster CTC put in a sterling effort when organising event.

I will most likely enter again unless the men in white coats collect me first.

I don't understand.

3.7 km long with most of it at 20%.

My maths say the rise should be 740m in elevation.

Am I mistaken of is someone telling porkies?

Its only steep for 1 km. The first kilometer. The rest cools down to a steady 10%.

I noticed that one too! CW often hyped up those steep climbs.

We have a tough climb just out of town (Mytholm Steeps) and it is often described as a 25% climb. It does have a section of 25% and other bits that are 15-20% but if you averaged the whole thing it would be more like 10%.

Whatever the grade, Asterton Bank is a real nasty. I usually get off and walk rather than blow-up fighting this ascent. I doubt that compacts can manage this ascent. Indeed, triples are more the order of the day.

Of course there is a steeper climb than Asterton Bank within the opening miles. Wyniates Way over the Abberleys is an utter shocker but not quite so long. It is also located in Woodland and can be quite greasy.

If you think the Killer is tough try the Tregaron Dragon. 4800 metres of climbing over 130 miles, the Devils Staircase is included but that is actually pretty easy compared with the relentless climbs that follow.
It took me 13 hours and several pubs to complete it, and a 20 inch 1st gear.
I might do the Killer on one of the Moultons this year  for a laugh ......
here is the profile for the Dragon see you on it next year .

Unless you are a climber then surely these events are one off rides or do the numbers remain stable. Just curious, i hate rides where you climb just to freewheel and brake down the other side. They look the got to be done type though.

I've sent my entry off. I rode it a few years ago and found it fairly tough. But I did survive the Tregaron Dragon OK so I think I'll be OK this time round. It's a super scenic route and worth the ride for that. Plus the cakes at Church Stretton are award winning. Cakes courtesy of one of the Kidderminster CTC ladies I believe
