thank you. i think my new name is funny, it conjures images of a bygone age when they might've employed a simpleton or village idiot to literally test helmets by putting on the helmet and having their head violently smacked off assorted hard surfaces and moving vehicles.
i dare say nowadays the reality of testing helmets is somewhat more mundane ; it'll be all long tedious afternoons of scientific measurements in big boring machines, and the occasional excitement of whacking a cycle helmet with a hammer, without so much as harming a hair on the head of a village idiot or chimpanzee.

I have a great postcard I bought at the Barbican of the River Police testing lifejackets in the '30s by jumping in the docks, fully clothed with wool overcoats, helmets etc (but, if I remember right, no socks or boots!)
