Having just noticed a review of the Eric Clapton gig in Leipzig - wish I'd been there - I started musing on what would be the ideal rock band and came up with the following (assuming all musicians still alive and at the top of their powers):

Vocals - Eric Burdon
Guitar and Vocals - Rory Gallagher
Bass and Vocals - Jack Bruce
Keyboards - Nicky Hopkins
Drums - Rod D'Ath

Obviously I like bluesy bands.

What's your line up then?

Jack Bruce is a good call, one of the most underated and undercelebrated Rock Musicians... and I chose the word Musician with care.

He he... yes, that was a band that could hardly have been bettered. You can keep your turgid 'blues'-rock, give me some of that kosmichemusik any time. ;)

Drums - Phil Rudd
Vocals - Bon Scott (RIP)
Guitar - Richard Thompson
Bass - no bass, I'd have a tuba player instead, playing rock basslines

I'd love to see that live!

I would have him trading licks with Hendrix, Jaki Liebezeit keeping that awesomely tight rhythm on the drums, Squarepusher on bass, Booker T and Steve Winwood taking turns on the keyboards, and Sly Stone and Lester Chambers on vocals.

It would be mental.

Richard Thompson is up there with the very best but due to his style you would have to construct a totally different type of band around him, probably with less conventional (in rock terms) instruments.

Hence the tuba as bass guitar.
