Thought I'd better introduce myself,

I'm Gaz, 34 years old, married to Sally and we have a 2 year old girl.

Just got back into cycling after a 15 year break, during which time a gained abit of weight and started smoking, drinking basically everything that is bad!!!!

Quit the ciggies 4 years ago and gained even more weight. Deciding last summer that being a fat bastard sucks, I sold my Electra Straight 8 chopper and bought a road bike and converted my mountain bike to a commuter tool.

August 2008 I stood on the scales at 17st 9lbs, which for me at 6ft 3inches is about 3 and half stone overweight.

I now sit here typing this weighing in at 13 stone 10lbs, all thanks to getting back on the bike.

My work is only 1 mile away, so I do an extended loop in the morning and after work of 14 miles (28 miles aday) and go for rides on either a Saturday, or Sunday of distances raging from 30 to 65 miles.

I don't own any flash super dooper Carbon Fibre tricked out £1000 plus specials, as funds don't allow, so I just bought the best I could afford.

My road bike is iceni Steel frame with Carbon forks, Mavic SUP rims all built up with 8-10 year old new old stock Shimano Dura-Ace 9 speed components, with some cheep Ecustar SPD sl pedals, nothing flash but it does the job, and it does it very well for me.

My commuter hack is Specialized Hardrock 2 tonne special, as this never goes offroad I changed alot of bits and bobs. The front suspension forks went in favour of some steel rigid Identiti Rebate jump forks, tyres are Schwalbe Big Apples, with Deore hollow tech 2 cranks etc, again, nothing flash, but it does the job, allthough the hubs are getting a bit tired now!!!

Welcome dude and good job on the weight loss :0)

I too and a fat lump, fifteen stone, which for me is about two stone overweight. But being both fat and lazy means I haven't shifted it! ;0)

Nice bunch of people here, and well run, so I'm sure you'll be happy. Welcome again :0)

Hi Gaz - nice intro.

I'm impressed with how many miles you are doing each week. I've cycled in North Cornwall a few times, and found it pretty tough going - so tough that one time we just have up and camped by the sea instead few days.
