Approaching perfection from a distance.
Broken neck and back..well that's me off my bike for a while; going to have my gall bladder removed - any survivors on here?
Cardiac arrest, heart attack cancer, depression strikes!
Cramps in legs - Colin J's DVT and pulmonary embolism or just a numb leg and lower back pain?
Broken leg...giant gut - lazy or just a bit scared and useless?
Blurred vision, muscular or as a result of my rear skull pain?
Cycling with chronic medical conditions! ;)

By the by, no offence intended to those who are suffering from any of the above at the present time- I've had quite serious health issues in the past, so I understand a little of how it feels- but, in a forum dedicated to health and fitness, what a great advert for healthy living we cyclists are!

Ah, but how much worse would be we if we didn't cycle??

My health problems were caused by the six days a week when I wasn't cycling, not the one day a week when I was cycling over stupidly hard hills trying to make up for my laziness!

I'm doing a lot of shorter rides now (much better to do four or five 20 mile rides a week than just one long one) and am definitely feeling the health benefits of my new regime. I have lost over 60 pounds in weight and am fitter than I had been for the five years leading up to getting ill.

I pulled a back muscle trying to assume a more "racing" position on the (flat bar) bike

I've had nothing but health problems since I started cycling again. Bizarrely part of the recovery involves exercise, in the form of walking and cycling:rolleyes:

Well, conversely the fact that I was back out on my bike ten days after the gallbladder op shows what those benefits are. I wanted to know how bad the pain was going to be, and how quickly I would recover. Although I'm still off work I'm planning a thirty miler today. I had a home visit from my line manager who had the same op a while ago and she told me she was unable to sit up without pain for the best part of a fortnight after the procedure, so the health benefits of cycling show that if you are relatively fit then you don't take as long to recover. She was amazed my fit note expires three weeks after the op and I have no intention of extending it. She was off for five.
