The fight against doping...

Let's just give in to the dope cheats, but only on the proviso that there is NO radio contact with the riders ever again!

Doesn't matter how full of something someone is if they're half an hour back down the road!

and provided they have the requisite UCI sticker on their bike from a large enough manufacturer with clout. The UCI is just about making cycling as morally and ethically bankrupt as football.

I thought of starting a new thread, but perhaps all doping related comment is best run under one thread.

So, any thoughts re the UCIs no needle policy? French equal of Boots the chemist sold hypodermic needles over the counter and B12...so back in 1991-92 I frequently bought those wares and had them injected into me to help with recovery. Is it a step too far? I reckon team Drs should be cut out. -

Which would be completely daft. Their job is to look after the rider's health. Take them away and we go back to injuries treated by soigneurs, and complete loss of control of what riders may or may not be doing. Personally I think the no needles thing is going too far, there are times when treatment needs the use of injections. It happens in all sports, so why the UCI should try and ban it from cycling beats me. It would just be PR posturing, and we would still hear commentators/managers talking openly about footie and tennis players, plus lots of others, being able to compete because of their "pain killing" and "cortisone" injections.

Rather than cut team doctors out, the UCI could employ them and second them to the teams, swapping round every couple of years.
The cost to the UCI could come out of a team levy, the teams wouldn't lose out because they wouldn't be employing their own doctor.
