Ok, embarasement time.

I have a bit of a pile problem that's definitely been caused by cycling. Using the traditional creams and wot not but keeps reoccurring. Diet is all good so that shouldn't be it.

Could it be my saddle? I don't find it uncomfy but after 30 mins I am shifting about a bit.

There are some much more effective potions that are prescription only.... go and see you GP. Don't be embarrassed, they've seen it all before.

Oooooher! Hope it/they subside soon. How are you so sure that cycling's 'definitely' caused it? I doubt that it has. Internal/external the trick is to shrink them. Suppositories and cream are the first line of treatment. After that you're into a trip to the docs, appointment for sigmoidoscopy, bands, operation or whatever else the experts decide. As you may deduce I/we've been there, no wish to do so again.

After all of that, they're usually as a result of a strain in the toilet department, may be a disposition towards them. See the doc.

Sigh, I might have to see the doc. Trouble is is that she's young and pretty!

It's a good point that it might not be the cycling, it's just odd that I've only had the problem since being in the saddle for the few months that I have.

I think internal, although there are signs of external as well

You'll be fine. I forgot to raise the query of whether you've been weight training? The strain of doing squats and similar lifts can cause piles, as can lifting somat in the house/garden!! I don't want to know it's something for you to consider, that's all.

Nope, no weight training  a good point tho.

I'm wondering if it's cycling at all as you say, spent over two hours in the saddle today and no discomfort in that area!

Docs next week I think it doesn't clear up.

I live in Poole so this makes me qualified ^_^

Seriously, when I started commuting / cycling on a regular basis many many years ago....I suffered from the same problem. In the shower I would poke the little buggers back up where they came from . It does work.

Anyway, as my body got used to this weird form of exercise it all sorted itself out...'sorted itself' being the phrase in question. Now I know you have an attractive Doctor but hold off on what they may suggest and let those surrounding cycling muscles build up some preventative measures....it just needs time...and some soap

Hehe thanks doog! Nice to see a local  I'll keep pedalling and poking like you suggest! You've quelled my fear that my body can't cope. Maybe I've been pushing my body a little hard.

I would go along with the comment about straining in the toilet department, I am prone to this myself. Ensure you keep yourself well hydrated to make a softer stool, lactulose is a good over the counter remedy to makes things a lot softer too.

I used Anbesol during a bad episode and found it useless though I know other people who swear by it. What cured my bad episode was a visit to the docs who prescribed a steroid suppository. After weeks of incredible pain they were gone in 3 days. I don't attribute any of my piles problems to cycling.

This does work, my doctors advice was 'get a close friend to insert two fingers to push them in again' A bit extreme I thought, and I couldn't really really rouse much enthusiasm from my mates, my modified version was to numb the area with an over the counter cream (anusol's good, they should sponsor the tour of Britain), and then use one finger only for starters.
