I want to order this book The Cyclist's Training Bible, but I am not sure if it is a good one.
Did anyone read it already?
I just started Cycling 2 months ago and I would like to read it,
eventhough my aim is not to go to races, but I want to know about it,
because my boyfriend is probably going to:biggrin:
So I need to be informed to support him:smile:
Please share your thoughts with me!

I haven't read it but Joe Friel is well regarded and it will probably be packed with facts and figures.

I bought this recently and after having his Mountain Bikers training bible previously. I find it very good, I don't follow it to the letter but there is a lot of usefulvinformation in there.

I have it.

It's very interesting and has all the information you will need to develop a really good training plan to prepare yourself for a racing season (or anything else - sportive etc).

It's pretty full on though - not really a light, easy read. There are plenty of other, more concise, more accessible books on the subject that you will get 80% of the benefit from. however if you are interested in performing really well, or want to understand how your boyfriend can train really well, then it is a great book

I have both the Cyclists and Triathlete's training bibles, they are very interesting, and quite in depth. If you just want to be told do this, do that, dont bother reading them, you wont get what you are looking for. If you want a lot of science, advice and help in being able to construct your own programmes methodically it is at least worth a read.

Good book IMO and a well respected coach / author on training.

Opinions change over the years.

What you read in a book today might be 'out of Vogue' in the future, or completely dismissed by new research.

Take 'spinning' for instance. Five years ago, every cycling book on the planet said 'spinning' was the only way.
Now, the cycling coaches are telling us each person has different muscle structures ( which was known about years and years ago ). All the books praising spinning for everyone are now obselete.

The most up-to-date info is on the internet, and most of it is free.

You have a point. I do like books though! To each their own eh Jimbo?

Yes exactly my point here.
I prefer to have some time without something electronic:O
A book is something nice, to spend time with, like when you are sitting in a tram in the morning:biggrin:

Thank you all for this talk:smile:
