The Clash - Sandinista !

To be honest, I have not heard it in years and was wondering if it still stood the test of time. Whilst not playing the full 3 albums, I have got to say, the album some how has got better with time since its release. Perhaps its my broader musical taste, but Sandinista is a collection of Punk, Reggae and Jazz fusion which works extremely well. I think there were mixed feelings when this album orginally hit the music stores, perhaps people really didn't understand it.

Those of you that still have this album/CD tucked away in your collection, when you get a moment, dig it out and give it a play!

I've done this recently while sticking everything on my i-pod and I still think the same now as I did at the time; it would make a good single album (some said maxi-single) but they spread themselves way too thin and it comes across as self indulgent.

I play it regularly - at least sides 1-4. It is probably my favourite CLASH album.

Most music is self indulgent.........most Stranglers songs were written about their experiences......I think Sandinista was quite experimental at the time.

Police On My Back is a storming track, there are some gems on Sandinista but as has been said it is a tad self indulgent and lacks the immediate punkch of their earlier albums.

It would have made a great double album. Some great gems on there. But too much B side material to make it into a triple.
Probably true, but IIRC they sold it for the price of a single LP...and as a result never made any money on it.

Self indulgent in places but deserves some time spent on it for the diamonds. Definitely a product of the time and can't imagine a modern band being able to get away with it these days.

Exactly, they stuck 2 fingers up to the record execs ad did what they wanted, this is why pop/charts are so bland controlled by the likes of simon cowell

Much as I like the Clash, I rarely listen to Sandanista. Too much filler - as has been said, would have made a great album or even double album.

You can forgive much of the band who gave us London Calling.
