Yesterday, I decided to do the longest ride yet. Exactly 70 miles from my speedo.

Weather was okay but got a little bit rainy towards the end. Wasnt good as I forgot to bring any water or food with me. Very dehidrated when I reached Denbigh but fortunately went into the Leisure center and got some stuff.
In all, it was a good ride and apart from getting lost, I enjoyed it.

How did you find it? I did a ride over the long mynd on Saturday, which was 45 miles overall on a borrowed Carrera Virtuoso that belongs to a friend, and I didn't find it too hard - but that's 25 miles less! However, this was my first ever go on a road bike and I got back/shoulder ache, is this normal?

I'm thinking of biking 70 miles to the coast from Ludlow, but there are some pretty big hills in the way! I averaged 10 mph on Saturday, so I should be able to do it in a day? Perhaps I should train a bit more first - and buy a road bike!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who takes what my friends call 'geeky bike pictures' ! They're very nice & well done for the 70 miler!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I found it quite hard as I didnt have any water with me, and there were plenty of hills along the way. I did take a more flat route home which only cut 4 miles out of my journey.

I am hoping to cycle to Manchester at some point this summer which is 65 miles. But as it goes through Chester, it is quite a busy route but mainly flat.

I am in awe of you, doubly so if you did it without provisions or drink!

Well I was very dehidrated. I dont normally go out with a drink because, honestly, I dont really feel that I need it (for 30 - 40 miles). On this ride, I should have had something with me as I was starting to get hungry towards the end as well.

Since you found you were de-hydrated after your ride it does tell you how fallible the body mind signalling system is.
The signal for de-hydration doesn't exist until it's to late. You can be de-hydrated but not thirsty. When you get the thirsty signal its usually too late. So, you should on a ride of 70 miles drink not less than 1.5 litres. With the weather being warmish at the moment on a 30 mile ride I drink a litre even though I'm not thirsty. So, you really need to help your body to to hydrate and not wait for your body to tell you.
One of these days you're going to bonk in a big,big way so take something with you for when you do.

I have made that mistake before and getting homes was not pleasant. That said, with food and water you will find it so much easier  100Miles before long
